About Us
We are a coalition of parents and educators in the San Marcos Unified School District committed to ensuring that technology in our schools serves learning - not the other way around.

We believe in collaboration between families, teachers, and the district to address how smartphones, 1:1 devices, and educational technology are integrated into the classroom. Our coalition exists to share experiences, elevate research, and organize meaningful action within our community.

We are not anti-technology. We are pro-learning. That means we advocate for technology use in our schools that is evidence-based, developmentally-appropriate, and time-bound — used when it helps, and set aside when it doesn't.

A National Movement
Concerns about technology in schools have become a defining issue in education, sparking a national movement with growing momentum. Parents and educators across the country are pushing their districts to rethink how and how much technology belongs in the classroom.

Jodi Carreon, founder of SMUSD Parents for Intentional Tech, is at the forefront of that movement. In 2024, she co-founded Smartphone-Free Childhood US and established a national network of edtech advocates. She continues that work through Schools Beyond Screens, helping establish parent & educator coalitions across the country. As co-leader of Distraction-Free Schools California, she is advancing policy change at the state level. Closer to home, she brings that same commitment to her work within SMUSD.
SMUSD Parents for Intentional Tech is a proud member of Schools Beyond Screens - a network of parent and educator coalitions working together to address the issues of screens in our local schools.
